FAQ

You ask, we answer

Does the currency automatically change depending on the IP connection in the Currency Converter Plus app?

Yes, Currency Converter+ uses a reliable paid geolocation service that automatically detects the visitor's location and provides an impressive 99.8% accuracy at the country level.

What is the Currency Converter Plus cart note?

The cart note is a text displayed on the cart page when your customers view prices in a currency different from the one used for checkout. Since Shopify only allows checkout in the store’s default currency, the cart note helps prevent confusion by explaining this change to customers. This note will not be displayed if you have other currencies configured in Shopify Markets.

Which type of currencies does Currency Converter Plus offer?

Currency Converter+ supports a wide range of currencies, including:

  1. Official currencies like the US Dollar, Canadian Dollar, British Pound Sterling, or Japanese Yen.
  2. Currencies are used in multiple countries such as the Euro, West African Franc, or Pacific Franc.
  3. Alternative currencies, including exchanges like the black market Venezuelan Bolivar or the Chilean Unit of Account.
  4. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Monero.
  5. Precious metals such as Gold, Silver, and Platinum.
  6. Historical currencies like the French Franc or the German Mark.

How to display your store prices in a specific currency in Currency Converter Plus (Google Shopping compatibility)?

To display your store's prices in a specific currency using Currency Converter Plus, you can simply add a parameter to the URL.

For example, if you want to show prices in Canadian dollars, you would use the URL: http://mystore.myshopify.com?currency=CAD

If your URL already contains parameters, you just need to include the new currency parameter with the “&” character:
http://mystore.myshopify.com?some-parameter=some-value¤cy=CAD

This method can be especially useful for ensuring compatibility with Google Shopping. You can refer to Google’s guidelines here for more details.

Can I have different settings for mobile and desktop views on Currency Converter Plus?

The app preferences for Currency Converter Plus are global, meaning that they apply to both mobile and desktop versions equally. While there are no separate configuration options for each, some preferences might naturally display differently on mobile devices compared to desktop.

Are prices converted on the checkout page in the Currency Converter Plus?

If your store uses Shopify Markets, prices at checkout will convert to the currencies you have configured. Currency Converter Plus will integrate smoothly, converting your prices to both currencies from Shopify Markets and extra currencies from Currency Converter Plus.

For stores not using Shopify Markets, Currency Converter Plus converts prices on public pages, but checkout will revert to your store's base currency due to Shopify's policy. You can add a cart note to inform customers about this.

Is Currency Converter Plus compatible with Shopify Markets?

Currency Converter Plus is mostly compatible with Shopify Markets, especially for standard country-currency pairings and non-Euro currencies. However, it does not support non-standard configurations like assigning unusual currencies to certain countries (e.g., Japanese Yen for Canada).

What is the correct currency symbol position?

The correct currency symbol position depends on the customer’s language, not the currency. For example, English places it on the left, while French places it on the right. Currency Converter+ detects the browser language and automatically formats the symbol correctly for each customer.

How do I remove decimals from my prices?

To remove decimals, update your currency formatting settings in your Shopify admin. Currency Converter+ will respect the configuration you set.

For guidance, check out Shopify’s tutorial: Currency Formatting.

Can I change the currency displayed by default in my store?

Yes, you can change the default currency displayed in your store. In the app preferences, go to Currency list and geolocation and select your preferred currency under Default conversion currency. This will disable geolocation, and the selected currency (e.g., USD) will be displayed to all customers unless they choose a different one from the currency switcher.

Can I choose the Shopify Markets price format?

Shopify sets fixed price formats for currencies configured in Shopify Markets which cannot be customized (e.g., Euros use commas for decimals, Hungarian Forints have no decimals).

Currency Converter Plus follows these formats for compatibility. For your store’s default currency, you can customize formats in Shopify Admin under Settings, and our app will apply those changes.

Number of decimals

Currency Converter+ follows the ISO 4217 standard to display the correct number of decimal digits for each currency:

  • No decimals: Currencies like Japanese Yen (JPY).
  • Two decimals: Most currencies (e.g., USD, EUR).
  • Three decimals: For currencies like Bahraini Dinar (BHD).
  • Four decimals: Special cases like the Chilean Unit of Account (CLF).

This ensures accurate, professional formatting for all currencies. For more details on ISO 4217, visit this link.

Why is Currency Converter+ converting all numbers and not only the prices?

This usually happens due to your Shopify currency formatting. To fix it, update your store’s currency formatting to include the currency symbol at the beginning of the price. Simply go to Settings > General > Store currency > Change formatting in your Shopify admin. For detailed instructions, check this article. Once updated, the app will correctly detect and convert only the prices.

Why is Currency Converter+ converting prices inside pop-ups and iframes?

Currency Converter+ can convert prices in pop-ups if they are displayed as HTML content, but cannot convert prices inside HTML iframes due to browser security policies (CORS). If you use widgets embedded as HTML content instead of iframes, the app will be able to access and convert prices accurately.

Are prices converted on the 'Thank you' and 'Order status' pages?

No, prices are not converted on the 'Thank you' and 'Order status' pages. Shopify uses a hardcoded format with two decimal digits on these pages, which differs from the shop's configured currency format. To prevent potential conversion issues, Currency Converter+ does not convert prices on these pages.

Can I modify the exchange rates manually?

Currency Converter+ does not allow custom exchange rate modifications. However, if you use Shopify Markets, you can set custom rates there, and the app will use those rates instead of its external providers.

How do I prevent the conversion of a particular price?

To prevent the conversion of a particular price, you can:

  1. Use the Ignored Prices Field: Go to the app's Advanced Preferences and add jQuery selectors (e.g., #ignored-price, .ignore-price) for the prices you want to exclude.
  2. Add a CSS Class: Add the cbb-ignored-price class to the HTML ancestor of the price element or section you want to exclude.

For assistance, contact us with details of the prices to be ignored, and we’ll help you set it up.
