Imagine this: a customer lands on your store, browses a few products they like, adds one to the cart… and then gets distracted. Hours later, they return — but can’t quite remember which product caught their eye.
With our latest update to Also Bought, that problem disappears.
You can now display recently viewed products directly in the recommendation widget, helping shoppers pick up right where they left off. This new feature adds a layer of smart personalization that brings your store closer to how people actually shop by surfacing what’s most relevant, right when it matters.
Here’s how it works:
In your app’s Recommendation tuning section, you’ll now find a new option called “Show recently viewed products as recommendations.”
Once enabled, you can set the maximum number of recently viewed products you’d like to display in the widget.
The order is automatically handled for you. Products are displayed in order of most recently viewed, so the last product a customer viewed will appear first.
There’s also an intelligent logic behind the scenes. If one of the recently viewed items is already part of another recommendation type (manual, automatic, or global), it won’t be duplicated; instead, it will appear in its respective section. This ensures a smooth and consistent browsing flow that feels thoughtful and intuitive for shoppers.
By showing visitors what they’ve just explored, you’re subtly reminding them of their own interests and nudging them closer to purchase in a simple, effective way, turning browsing into buying.
It’s a small update that delivers a big improvement in usability, helping merchants offer a more connected shopping journey and keeping customers engaged from start to finish.
