Increase your conversion rate with combinable discounts

Creating a compelling product bundle is one of the most effective ways to increase your average order value. However, we know that modern Shopify stores often run multiple promotions at once, from seasonal sales to newsletter sign up codes. In the past, "one discount per order" was a common hurdle that forced customers to choose between a bundle deal or a coupon code.

To give you more flexibility and make certain your customers always get the best deal, we are excited to announce that Frequently Bought Together now supports combinable discounts.

Better flexibility for your promotions

The goal of this feature is simple: to remove friction at checkout. By allowing discounts to be combined, you can stack your Frequently Bought Together bundle offers with other active promotions in your store.

This update makes certain that if a customer qualifies for a bundle discount and has a separate free shipping code or a store wide percentage discount, they can benefit from both. This creates a more rewarding shopping experience and prevents abandoned carts caused by "discount conflict."

Supported combinations

Following Shopify’s native combination logic, Frequently Bought Together allows for several powerful pairing options. Depending on how you configure your offers, you can now combine:

  • FBT product discounts + other FBT product discounts: If a customer adds two different bundles (applied to different products), they can receive both discounts.

  • FBT product discounts + shipping discounts: Pair your bundle percentage or fixed amount discounts with a free shipping offer.

  • FBT discounts + third party discounts: Your bundle deals can now work alongside external discount codes or automatic order wide promotions.

Key configuration details

To make a discount combinable, you simply need to adjust the settings within the app preferences. Under the Discounts section, you will find the options to select which categories of discounts (product, order, or shipping) your bundle offer should play nicely with.

Please keep in mind:

  • Maximum limits: According to Shopify rules, a maximum of five product discounts and one shipping discount can be combined on the same order.

  • The best deal rule: If two different product discounts apply to the same item, Shopify will automatically apply only the most favorable discount for the customer to guarantee they get the best price without unintended stacking on a single product.

By leveraging combinable discounts, you can scale your marketing efforts and verify your bundle offers are always attractive, regardless of what other sales are running in your store.
