We are excited to introduce a powerful capability for merchants using manual product bundling: reverse bundles and reverse recommendations.
The purpose of this feature is simple: to ensure recommendation consistency and maximize cross selling opportunities across your entire product catalog.
What is a reverse bundle?
A reverse bundle is the replication of a product bundle across all its recommended items.
Let us assume we have a manual bundle in Frequently Bought Together for the product VANS SNEAKERS with recommendations NIKE CAP and ADIDAS BACKPACK.
Its reverse bundles would make sure that the recommended items also feature the original product and its peer recommendation:
- Product ADIDAS BACKPACK would receive recommendations for VANS SNEAKERS and NIKE CAP.
- Product NIKE CAP would receive recommendations for VANS SNEAKERS and ADIDAS BACKPACK.
This consistency provides that regardless of which product a customer is viewing, they are presented with the full set of complementary items.
A similar process applies in Also Bought, using manual recommendations instead of manual bundles. Reverse recommendations replicate the relationships across all products involved, ensuring that each item displays the full, coherent set of cross-selling suggestions.
How to create them
To create reverse bundles from a concrete bundle, simply go to the manual bundle configuration page for the original product on Frequently Bought Together (or manual recommendations if you are using Also Bought).
You can then easily replicate the recommendations:
- Navigate to the product’s manual bundle configuration page.
- Click on the Create reverse bundles option.
This automated process greatly reduces the time spent manually setting up symmetric recommendations.
Key configuration options
When creating reverse bundles, the system requires you to make two key decisions regarding how the replication should be handled.
Overwriting existing bundles
You will need to decide if possible existing bundles for the recommended products should be overwritten. Choose this option carefully, especially if those products already have other manual configurations.
Replicating discounts
In case a discount has been specifically created for the original bundle, you will also need to decide if the discount should be replicated in the reverse bundles.
By using the reverse bundles feature, you instantly improve the discoverability and visibility of your product groupings across your store.
